The Glad Cafe operates as both a venue and licensed cafe in the Shawlands area of the southside of Glasgow. It aims to have something to offer people of any age or background in this diverse and vibrant local community.
The venue runs a packed programme of alternative live music gigs, as well as some films, spoken word and drama events, and talks. In 2016/17 it won two awards for the quality of the venue programme: Sunday Herald’s Culture Awards Best Arts Venue, and Scottish Trad Awards Best Venue.
The cafe has become known for the excellent vegetarian food served by our friends Hen of the Woods by day, with equally delicious vegan food from the Hug and Pint team by night. We also serve high quality coffee, and a range of cakes including gluten free. We also serve some quality wines, a small range of cocktails, and a growing range of craft beers.
The Glad Cafe is a social enterprise with the legal structure of Community Interest Company. As a social enterprise we work with our Glad Rags Cooperative Thrift Shop to fulfil our social purpose to support the provision of free and affordable music lessons and workshops for local people through the work of our SCIO the Glad Foundation.
