The Piano Project CIC

The Piano Project aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness, increase connections between people and create opportunities for moments of spontaneous human contact by facilitating greater access to acoustic pianos in Glasgow and beyond, through the redistribution of piano donations back into the community and recycling older unplayable pianos into new furniture/artwork . . . along with piano hire, piano decoration facilitation and subsidised piano tuition initiatives this all creates a network of instruments and events open to all ages & abilities. It works with venues citywide to maintain 15/20 freely accessible ‘Pianos in Public Places’ citywide, year round, with around 100 more pianos ( to date ) now installed in: hospitals, sheltered accommodation, care homes, cafes, community groups, schools and galleries . . . all the way from Riverside Museum, Waterstones ( Sauchiehall Street ) and Skypark to GalGael in Govan It offers subsidised tuition to people in need, with an informal ‘Social Prescribing’ initiative in ongoing development, taking referrals from Community links Practitioners, Gp’s & partner organisations. It runs ‘Lids Open Day’ events, giving rare free access to the city’s highest quality grand pianos without any expectations to entertain anyone, while also inviting local artists/individuals to decorate pianos, making them more approachable and fun. This all combines to help embed greater permission to play into the fabric of the city and also into everyday life for local people, having a long-term impact on . . . Glasgow Piano City.
