Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector (GCVS), the main development and support agency for voluntary and community organisations in Glasgow, is delighted to announce the appointment of Ian Bruce as its new Chief Executive. Ian will take over from the current Chief Executive Helen Macneil, who retires at the end of June, after 28 years with the organisation, 16 years as its CEO.
Ian is currently the Chief Executive of CVS Inverclyde where he has led the organisation since 2010. Having previously worked for the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations and other charities he has an extensive history in the voluntary sector.
Ian said: "I will be very sad to leave CVS Inverclyde which is a fantastic organisation doing really exciting work in a vibrant and friendly part of Scotland. But after almost ten years it feels time for someone new to take over and for me to take on a new challenge. GCVS is a key development agency, which has a really vital leadership role to play in reducing inequalities and improving lives in the city I live in and love. The work they do supporting and strengthening communities is crucial and it will be an honour to join the trustees, staff and volunteers to take the charity forward."
Chair of the Board at GCVS, Shona Stephen said: "We are truly grateful to Helen for her vision, tenacity and principled commitment to Glasgow over the years, which have made GCVS the strong, respected organisation it is today. Now we are really delighted to welcome Ian on board; his impressive skills, expertise and knowledge of the voluntary sector make him an ideal fit for GCVS in these challenging times, to help us take forward our ambitious plans”.
Chair of the Board at CVS Inverclyde, Karen Haldane said: “This appointment is great news for Glasgow and very sad news for CVS Inverclyde and the wider Inverclyde area. Ian’s contribution over the last 10 years has been hugely valuable and has seen the organisation go from strength to strength. We will shortly begin recruitment for a new Chief Executive to help us achieve the next stage of our development”.
Helen Macneil leaves GCVS on 25th June 2019
Ian Bruce leaves CVS Inverclyde on the 9th August 2019 and will take up post with GCVS on 12th August 2019.
