Based in Pollok for almost 20 years The Village Storytelling Centre are committed to providing quality story-led arts programmes and activities across the Greater Pollok area and beyond. They would love for their new Chair to be invested in our local community and passionate about the potential of Arts for Social Change.

Background
The Village Storytelling Centre improves lives and empowers communities by bringing people together; inspiring them to find, shape & share their voices & to realise their potential through the power of storytelling.
The Village was set up in 2000 in the Pollok area of Glasgow to bring accessible and vibrant creative experiences to a community entrenched with social and economic challenges. We have grown extensively over the years and are renowned for our work in applied storytelling.
Principal duties of the Chair Person
To chair meetings of The Village Storytelling Centre (VSC) Board of Trustees and Directors and AGMs
To lead the Board to develop VSC’s strategic mission
To ensure the VSC Board acts in the interests of VSC’s mission
To encourage best practice in decision-making
To manage conflict constructively
To ensure that the Board reviews policies and procedures in accordance with best practice guidance
To line manage the Executive Director
To represent the Board externally
Person specification
Experience of leadership role, preferably in the third sector
Current awareness of good practice in third sector governance
At least 3 years’ experience as a trustee in the third sector
Excellent communication and personal skills, oral and written
Experience in strategic thinking and development
Experience in effective chairing of meetings and ensuring participation
Skills in effective group management
Skills in developing and maintaining links with external stakeholders
Supervisory experience of senior managers
Commitment to the mission and values of VSC
Credibility and strong networks in relevant area, particularly Arts, or Health and Social Care in Scotland
Available for at least one half day a fortnight and flexibly for email or phone contact.
