Scotcash CIC

Scotcash is a social enterprise which was founded with support from organisations including Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Housing Association, in order to tackle financial exclusion by helping those who are unable to access mainstream financial services. Working with the Royal Bank of Scotland, Virgin Money, the Bank of Scotland, and Barclays has allowed us to help open over 2,500 bank accounts since 2007, and working with several Credit Unions (Scotwest, Glasgow, Pollok, Pioneer Mutual, Capital Credit Union, and Castle Community Bank.) we have also helped to open over 800 savings accounts. Photographic ID is not always required, which is one of the ways we remove barriers to finance that many people are faced with. Scotcash also provides an ethical lending alternative and our loans are truly affordable – we do not lend more than someone can afford to pay back, and repayments are manageable according to customers’ needs. We have so far saved over 5m in interest payments compared with high-cost lenders and our customers also have access to advice on money, energy and benefits via our partnerships with Step Change Debt Charity and Home Energy Scotland - among other organisations such as One Parent Families Scotland and CABx - providing them with a range of complementary support services.
