Support Worker (Fortune Works)

The Support Workers duties will include helping to create, facilitate and maintain positive person centred activities which support people with a learning disability to play a worthwhile economic role as a valued member of the local community.
The successful candidate will provide a high quality of care and support for service users with a range of learning disabilities and to encourage their participation in group activities in order to gain skills and confidence. The applicant should also have experience of programme planning and review systems.
Most importantly they should have a positive and empowering approach to support people purchasing the service at Fortune Works.
9 Months Temporary Support Worker to cover Maternity Leave

Fortune Works project ‘Growing to Respect Each Other’ aims to expand its therapeutic horticulture service enabling individuals with learning disabilities to have increased access to its Garden Centre activities. The successful candidate will have excellent horticultural skills and will work with service users to maintain and develop the existing Garden Centre Service and seek out potential new volunteers, contracts and funding opportunities and facilitate social interaction with the general public at every opportunity.
The post holder will help deliver the Caley Award - a Grow and Learn Project which has a horticultural award scheme that recognises individual progress and achievement through experiential learning and personal development. The award offers the learner a structured framework to work within, but is also flexible enough to ensure a person centred approach at all times, making the award ideally suited for those with a learning disability or complex learning need.
The successful candidate will provide a high quality of care and support for service users with a range of learning disabilities and to encourage their participation in group activities in order to gain skills and confidence. This will include supporting service users in the training and delivery of Learning Disability Awareness and Hate Crime training to other agencies, schools, colleges, local businesses, community groups and the general public as a means towards overcoming prejudicial and stereotypical attitudes in and around Glasgow.
