Funding to Support Black and Mixed Black Heritage Researchers Across the UK

Do It Now Now, in partnership with Wellcome, is offering multi-year grants of between £13,000 and £48,000 for black-led charities, community interest companies, limited companies, and other organisations to strengthen Black-led leadership in the UK research ecosystem.

Funding will support groups to build capacity, strengthen leadership and governance, and expand their ability to support Black and Mixed Black heritage people’s research careers, including but not limited to initiatives such as:
  • Mentoring and peer networks.
  • Training, workshops, and community engagement.
  • Research support services, advocacy, and systemic change work.
Priority will be given to projects that directly tackle the systemic barriers faced by Black heritage researchers in the UK, while simultaneously strengthening the initiative’s capacity for sustainable support of research careers.

To apply, groups must have a track record of supporting Black or Mixed Black heritage researchers, students, or communities involved in research careers. Groups must be Black-led, with over 50% of their leadership comprising Black and Mixed Black heritage people, and at least 75% of their directors, trustees, or equivalent governing body members must have lived experience of the social issues faced by the group’s service users.

There is a multi-stage application process. Groups must first submit an online Expression of Interest before being invited to submit a full application. There will be two funding rounds in 2026.

The deadline for applications for Round One is 25 March 2026.
